Homework is assigned regularly. To determine if homework is assigned, please check the Class Blog on my website.
Journals are where all class notes are taken. Most of the time, students will watch a video outside of class and take notes in their journals or on a note sheet. Other important handouts may be kept in the journal as well. Pages should be labeled and numbered. Notes should be legible. Journal Checks are like notebook checks/quizzes, to hold students accountable for watching assigned tutorial videos and taking notes.
Warm-Ups are done daily, at the start of class, and may contain questions about current or past material.
Classwork is completed in class. Students should use their journals, collaborate with peers and ask questions to ensure their success.
Quizzes are generally once a week and ask questions about the topic we are currently covering in class. Open note quizzes will not be allowed if the quiz is announced ahead of time.
Tests are generally assigned every 3-4 weeks. They are assigned for students to demonstrate proficiency/mastery of topics covered. Open note tests will not be allowed.
We will have a couple of projects throughout the year and will take about 2 weeks to complete, in class.
Regarding Quiz/Test Corrections: Corrections will be accepted, up to 3 days after quizzes are returned to students and must be done using the Correction template, which is hyperlinked here. Corrections challenge students to reflect on their work and skills and to reorganize their thoughts and steps in order to promote mastery. If a student is unsure as to how to correct their errors, then it is the student’s responsibility to schedule an appointment with me during Activity/Lunch or to email me. Students should use their journals as a reference tool to help them.
Regarding Late Work: Extra time will be given, without penalty, if requested to the teacher - up to one week. After a week, parent requests will be considered, with a grade reduction.
Regarding Absent Work: Students are responsible for checking the team HW calendar, Google Classroom, and the “Absent Folder” in the classroom for all notes and assignments they miss. They are responsible for completing all missed classwork and homework, including warm-ups. Students are given 2 days per each day of absence to complete the work. After this time, the late work penalties will take effect.
